What's this? A new post???

OK, so much for this being a regular thing.

It's only been about a year between post.

Yesterday I read a Slate article rating different squirt guns (Article URL: http://www.slate.com/id/2170024/). Important stuff, squirt guns. What got me raving was the first reader's posting.

"...Remarks from the Fray: Slate . . . you should be ashamed. Let's ignore the fact that squirt guns have an obvious sexual element . . . even without that, we're simply promoting violence, every bit as much as shoot 'em up videogames. Only with water guns you're allowed to practice on live human targets. How sick is that? I can't think of a more sinister way to inculcate America's youth into the gun culture than to popularize water guns as innocent harmless fun. In fact, its practice for future street crime or war atrocities. The excuse for squirting someone unexpectedly ("I just couldn't resist") no longer flies. I reserve the right to choose who, when, and where I will participate in squirting behavior with. its symbolic sexual assault if you don't obtain my consent first. --baltimore aureole ..."

Ok I get the whole "gun toys promote gun violence" stance. I see it's points and agree that gun play without aditional parental guidance (i.e. murder is wrong, violence should be reserved for extreme messures, the reality of death, cause and effect, etc, etc. In other words being a parent) however I disagree with the whole "no gun toys rule".

Why? Because I grew up with guns. I grew up playing with gun toys. Played the violent game. I was a social outcast (how much of that was because of my social phobia I don't know). And I've never shot anyone! However, if you break into my home, threaten harm to my family, and so forth I WILL put a .45 hole in variouse parts of your body. (note to self, get a .45)

Still there? Sorry, got a bit wordy there. Now to the actual point.

Do I understand this poster correctly that s/he equates being "shot" with a squirt gun to rape?
